The Orne estuary, a breath of iodized Normandy nature!
The Orne estuary is one of Calvados?s main protected natural sites. It extends over 5 communes at the junction of the Côtes Fleurie and Côtes de Nacre. This area offers a natural break in the heart of this highly urbanized coastline. Between land and sea, you can observe some of the most original aquatic flora and fauna. Over 400 species of birds have been counted here in 30 years. This gateway to nature extends over 1,000 hectares, more than 300 of which are owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral.
The site is open to the public, with the possibility of multi-practice hikes on site. Observation towers 6 m and 12 m high allow visitors to discover the mouth of the Orne estuary. The Pointe du Siège, the Baie de Sallenelles and the Gros Banc bird sanctuary are emblematic places to take a stroll.
