Located in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin, Grand Puyconnieux, the highest point of the Monts de Châlus (alt. 498 metres), offers a wide, far-reaching panorama towards the Haute-Vienne, Charente and Dordogne regions. Part of a chain of puys running north-west/south-east from Cussac to Dournazac, the site comprises an open grassy summit and wooded slopes, alternating between chestnut coppice, conifers and patches of shrubbery. The puy is the source of numerous springs, and its crest marks the watershed between the Tardoire, Dronne and Bandiat watersheds. It is the highest point in the south-western Haute-Vienne region, offering exceptional views of the Château de Montbrun, one of the most beautiful castles on the Richard the Lionheart route. A hiking trail runs nearby.
