Located in the Massif du Fossard, the former hermitage of Saint Arnould is a site steeped in history. Little remains today, but you will discover a cross marking the site of the former chapel, some modern engravings and the remains of an old farmhouse.
Saint Arnould de Metz, born around 582 in Lay-Saint-Christophe, was the 29th bishop of Metz from 613 to 628. After leaving office, he became a hermit near the monastery of Mont Habend (Saint-Mont), founded by his friend Saint Romaric. He cared for lepers until his death around 640, and is recognised as one of the ancestors of the Carolingian dynasty, being the great-great-grandfather of Charlemagne.
