Prieuré Saint-Gabriel

Situated on the Route des Abbayes Normandes, the priory was founded in 1058 by Fécamp Abbey, at the request of the Lord of Creully. The community, which flourished until the 16th century, fell into decline from the 18th century onwards, and some of the buildings were subsequently demolished. Surviving from this period are the choir of the priory church – the sole remnant of the 12th century and a fine example of Romanesque architecture in Normandy – the gatehouse and the justice tower. The main building remains imposing, housing the courtroom, the monks’ refectory and the prior’s tower. The private grounds enhance the site (rose garden, fruit-tree avenue, medicinal garden, the monks’ fishpond and modern greenhouses).
