Forêt de haye

Description

The Forêt de Haye massif is located in Meurthe-et-Moselle, to the west of the Nancy conurbation. It is located on a vast limestone plateau hemmed in by the loop of the Moselle, which stretches west to Toul.

Arriving at Messein, the Moselle, coming from the Vosges, comes up against a limestone hill. It bypasses this limestone ridge on its way westwards, where it originally joined the Meuse at Pagny-sur-Meuse. A major geological event in the Quaternary caused it to leave the Meuse watershed and curve eastwards. The Moselle joins the Meurthe at Pompey.

In this loop lies the Haye plateau, which slopes gently from west to east, following the dip of the limestone strata and dropping cliff-like over the Nancy conurbation.
