







Located in Caen Castle, a thousand-year-old medieval fortress founded by William the Conqueror, the Musée de Normandie is a museum of history and society. With its extensive archaeological and ethnographic collections, the museum explores the life of people in Normandy from prehistoric times to the present day.
Temporary exhibitions are held in the Salles du Rempart, in the heart of the archaeological remains of the château.
A programme of activities based around the museum, the château and the urban heritage: events, workshops, quizzes, booklets, guided tours, tour application, etc. Summer highlight: Happy Weekend! the first weekend in August - free, non-stop events for families.

Exhibition 2026: "The Photographers' Castle", from 4 April to 4 October 2026.
Free highlights in 2026: European Museum Night (May), European Archaeology Days (June - permanent collections), Happy Weekend! (August), European Heritage Days (September), New Perspectives on the Reconstruction of Caen (September-October). Free tours and events on the first weekend of each month.
