Village de Saint-Bonnet-Les-Oules

Description

From the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century, Saint-Bonnet-les-Oules was famous for its pottery. Major deposits of good quality clay situated on its territory ensured the area’s prosperity
The village takes its name from a "globular shaped earthenware pot without a handle or a spout” called an “oule”. Saint Bonnet, the Bishop of Clermont, who died in Lyon in around 705, was the patron of the village and its chapel.
Situated on the first foothills of the Monts du Lyonnais (the mountains of the morning), it stands proudly, with its two castles and church, looking over the Forez Plain facing the Livradois Mountains (mountains of the evening) over which beautiful sunsets may be enjoyed in the summer months.
