This German Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer tank, more commonly known as the Hetzer, produced from March 1944 to January 1945, is an emblematic figure of the Second World War, with around 2,800 examples produced. The Hetzer was equipped with a 75mm cannon, mounted on a Czechoslovak Panzer 38(t) tank chassis. Four men could sit in this vehicle, which weighed 15.75 tonnes and was 6.27 metres long. Powered by a 160hp Praga 6-cylinder petrol engine, it could reach a top speed of 42km/h, with a range of 180km. Its armour varied between 8 and 60 millimetres. This example was recovered from a collector in Germany by the curator of the Museum of the Battle of the Ardennes. It was transported and restored for around 2 years in the 1980s by the curator himself, before being installed in front of the museum. The parts were found in the area where the vehicle was damaged. Farmers had even reused the wheels from the Hetzer tank. The entrance to the Museum of the Battle of the Ardennes is just behind the tank.Further information: www.batarden.be
