Cornouiller mâle - Cornus mas

Description

Son nom, « cornus », vient de son bois qui est dur comme de la corne. Il peut atteindre jusqu'à 12 m de haut. Il apprécie les sols calcaires et sa longévité est supérieure à 100 ans. Les fleurs jaunes de 5 à 10 mm de diamètre apparaissent en février–mars avant les feuilles. Cette floraison précoce fait du cornouiller une excellente plante mellifère. Son fruit, la cornouille, est comestible.
