Saint Hubert, a 7th-century lord who had a vision of a white stag with a cross between its antlers, has been the patron saint of hunters since the 9th century. He is also invoked for the protection of dogs and horses. Every year, he is celebrated around November 3 (Saint Hubert's Day) in Belgium, particularly in Gembloux and Jemeppe-sur-Sambre. During these festivals, horse processions are organized and the animals are blessed by a priest. The towns also hear the sound of hunting horns.
