For centuries in Wallonia, some towns have celebrated the end of winter and the return of life with carnivals. This is the case in Tamines, whose first carnival dates back to 1905. During this period of jubilation, folk processions made up of musicians, gilles and giants parade through the streets. As in Binche or La Louvière, oranges – symbols of prosperity and luck – are offered by the Gilles to the crowd.
