Look up to see the giants of Auvelais! They come out during the festivities and parade during the Cavalcades processions. The giants are gigantic characters, carried by men and women. Their origins date back to the religious processions of the end of the 14th century. They represent animals, professions, contemporary local figures, historical, biblical or legendary characters. Many of them roam the villages in Terra curiosa. In Auvelais, you can come across the miner Jean le Porion and his wife Marie d’el Potée, daughter of a glassmaker. They got married on Saturday, September 10, 1983 and the festivities lasted 4 days! From this union was born Maxence T'chiot Meunier on January 1, 2000, in Auvelais. He was baptized on May 14, 2000 and bears this first name in memory of the bonds of friendship between two cities (Auvelais and Pont-ste-Maxence) for 30 years. Since then, he parades with his parents.
