Once a prestigious residence, this château was built in 1280 by Géraud de Maulmont, advisor to the Viscountess of Limoges, Marguerite de Bourgogne. It suffered considerable damage, notably during the French Revolution. Dismantled in 1790 and used as a prison, its roof collapsed in 1928 and its tower in 1994.
Today, its remains are an interesting reminder of a late 13th-century castle. As early as the Middle Ages, an agglomeration grew up around it, resulting in the construction of a new church and cemetery.
