The Church of St. John the Baptist in Hasparren was built in the 16th century. In the base of the high altar there is a Roman inscription marking the importance of Hasparren in antiquity (a copy can be seen on the side wall on the parking side of the church).
The church was enlarged during the 19th century because the building was too small for the number of faithful. The choir was rebuilt in 1835, then the apse and the chapels. The wooden tribunes were built between 1858 and 1859 by Charles Besoin. The glass canopies were made in 1882 and the decoration painted under the apse vault was made by Daniel Saubiès, a pupil of Léon Bonnat.
