



In Bidart, the church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption faces east according to ancient tradition. Dating back to the 16th century, it is surrounded by the parish cemetery where some humble discoid stones still remain, serving as ornaments for the old Basque tombs
The baptismal font, in oriental style (offered by Queen Nathalie of Serbia); in front of the pulpit, a wooden crucifix (dated between the 16th and 17th centuries), the work of a good craftsman; a statue of Santiago in pilgrim's costume, made of beautiful solid oak; the gleaming altarpieces of 1750 strongly influenced by Spanish sculpture (where the patron saint of the church presides in the middle).
