SCHOTT House. Tour of an Art Nouveau “Nancy School” conservatory
The glasswork by painter and glass artist Antoine BERTIN dates from 1900. Made of plain glass and acid-etched glass set in lead, and featuring a design of orchids, nasturtiums, poppies, clematis, tulips, and irises, in shades of green, purple, blue, and yellow; this work is considered a precursor to the stained-glass art of the École de Nancy. The building’s architecture, woodwork, and ironwork still reflect an earlier traditional style. In contrast, the interior decoration features murals in a floral style that was already highly innovative, expressing the themes and motifs of the Nancy School.
The house is open to visitors year-round by appointment or during specific events (50-minute guided tour).
It is recommended to make an appointment for security reasons.
