The mysterious, magical Dabo Rock thrusts its way skyward through the dark, immense Vosges forests to an altitude of 664 m. An ancient Celtic place of worship, it was once crowned with a medieval castle, destroyed on the orders of Louis XIV in 1690. The chapel is dedicated to Pope Saint Leo IX, who was born locally. From the top of Dabo Rock there is a breathtaking view over beautifully conserved countryside. The Rock is accessible all year and is free, except for the periods when the Chapel is open from Easter to All Saint’s, 10am to 6pm.
