Préfecture des Deux-Sèvres
Description
La Préfecture, construite de 1828 à 1830 dans le style néo-classique par Pierre-Théophile Segretain, remplace un ancien jardin botanique. De forme polygonale, ce jardin comprenait une glacière, une plantation d’arbres fruitiers, une orangerie, des bains chauds et une école de natation sur les bords de la Sèvre. Deux sculptures de nymphes sur le fronton de l’édifice symbolisent la Sèvre Niortaise et Nantaise. Entre les deux femmes, est représentée Marianne, presque effacée.
