Description

Le 11 juillet 1964, le Tour de France remonte le canal. Un camion citerne qui assure l’approvisionnement de l’hélicoptère de la gendarmerie arrive trop vite de Bergerac et aperçoit trop tard le virage. Percutant la foule qui se masse pour voir passer les coureurs, il bascule dans le canal faisant huit morts, dont trois enfants, et treize blessés. Afin d’adoucir la courbe du virage, le canal est busé. Aucune embarcation ne pourra plus passer.
