Port de Port en Bessin - Huppain

A stopover that can only be described as ‘authentic’. Enter this harbour, between its two huge jetties, designed to brave the wildest tempest. Eastwards, under the cliffs, you can admire the vestiges of the artificial harbour in Arromanches. Here, the air is imbued with salt, sweat and history. For, although at the first glimpse, Port-en-Bessin looks just like a small inland village nestling amidst the dark and curvaceous hills, it is in fact a genuine mariners’ fortress. A small town with 2,100 inhabitants, all with a decidedly maritime outlook, here where fishing is a way of life. Lose yourself in its narrow streets, take a stroll around the harbour, or brave the cliffside, via the Vauban tower.
