Les Ruines du Château de Malval

Description

This ancient feudal motte was relatively easy to defend, as it was surrounded by La Petite Creuse and a deep, steep valley. The château was built in the 12th century and occupied by Du Guesclin during the Hundred Years War. It suffered from the various conflicts and had to be rebuilt in the 14th century. Once an imposing structure, all that remains today is the fortified eastern gateway, the remains of the guard tower to the south, the keep and the open guardhouse at the gorge.
