Chapelle du Sacré Coeur

Description

The Chapelle du Sacré-Coeur d'Hasparren, also known as the Chapelle des Missionnaires, was built between 1928 and 1931.
This Art Deco, Byzantine and Basque-style edifice boasts a particularly rich décor, unique in the south-west of France: frescoes of 48 figures, magnificent stained-glass windows and a huge mosaic by the famous Mauméjean brothers.
Listed as a Historic Monument since 2011, it is now owned by the Commune, and since 2019 has benefited from an enormous restoration project scheduled for completion in 2023.
In 2021, it was awarded the Prix Pèlerin Patrimoine, presided over by the chief architect of Notre-Dame de Paris.
1-hour guided tour, booking essential.
Open from Easter for individuals.
