The south-west facade of High-Jura houses are most exposed to the weather and are given special treatment. The galvanised sheet panel system (dipped in zinc) is referred to as “sliding” was developed by local tinsmiths. This system specific to the Grandvaux area spread significantly during the early 20th century across the High-Jura. From the 1930s, a new procedure allowed to complement the undulated sheets with stamped figures (losanges). Sheets were not always preferred as cladding materials, yet today they are one of the elements contributing towards the sector’s architectural uniqueness.
