Description

Fontaine Bénite (“Holy fountain”) is an oratory that was built in 1648 by an inhabitant of the valley - Philibert Mathieu - in honour of Saint Roland.
According to legend, Saint Roland made water spring from a source here which was known to cure headaches and stomach aches, as well as eye conditions. This was a place of worship and of pilgrimage.
