In 1854, a local, Jean REFFAY, fell into the Trou de l’Abîme. Legends say that the man himself, his cart and his cattle were swallowed up, never to be seen again. Since 1961, explorations have been carried out to describe and understand how the Trou de l’Abîme works. During these expeditions, 667 metres of underground galleries were discovered, with a cumulative difference in level of 77 metres.
