
It was in the 20th century that the beaches of the Côte des Isles became very popular, at a time when sea bathing was booming, aided by the Paris-Carteret rail link.
Since then, they have continued to delight young and old alike, sheltered from the Atlantic swell by the Channel Islands and warmed by the Gulf Stream.
Barneville beach is a popular summer spot for families and young people alike. In addition to its impressive expanse at low tide, numerous events are held here every year.
"During the summer months, a supervised bathing area is set up on Barneville beach, with a maximum length of 200 m and a maximum width of 100 m, delimited by two identical red and yellow flags and yellow spherical buoys, in accordance with the beaconing plan attached to the present decree. The size of the supervised bathing area is subject to change, depending on specific hazards and weather conditions:
- yellow flags, the bathing area is reduced;
- red flags, the red and yellow delimiting flags are removed
-Demarcation of the supervised bathing area is the responsibility of the lifeguards responsible for beach surveillance.
The bathing area is supervised during the period when the beach lifeguard station is open, as defined by municipal decree.
-ACM (Accueils Collectifs de Mineurs) leaders are required to report to the lifeguard station before any swim.
In the supervised swimming area :
- the use of motorized watercraft and water sports activities (sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddling, etc.) is prohibited.
However, the use of beach accessories such as air mattresses is permitted in the supervised bathing area.
- surface and underwater fishing are prohibited.
In the supervised bathing area and on the beach, users are required to comply with the instructions of the lifeguards in charge of supervision.
Barneville beach is equipped with an access channel to the sea, marked by conical buoys to starboard and cylindrical buoys to port. This channel is reserved for sailing vessels, motorboats, sports boats and pleasure craft, whether motorized or not.
Swimming is prohibited on Barneville beach:
- Swimming, the use of accessory gear for bathing, fishing and underwater fishing are prohibited in the access channel to the sea.
In the 300-metre coastal strip, all vessels, boats and gear may not travel at speeds exceeding 5 knots at any time of year, in accordance with order no. 08/92 issued by the Maritime Prefect
- in the temporary danger zones marked with the signs below Outside the defined and supervised bathing area and the prohibited zones, the public swims at its own risk.
Smoking-free beach.
-Smoking is prohibited on Barneville beach.
Dogs and other animals are not allowed on the beach from July 1 to August 31
It is forbidden :
- to play games on the beach that are likely to disturb or present a danger to third parties, particularly children (throwing stones or other projectiles) ;
- to throw or abandon on the beach paper, garbage, broken glass or other hard objects likely to soil the beach or cause injury to users. Users are required to use the garbage cans and litter garbage cans designated for this purpose.
-Bicycles, mopeds, cars and other means of transport are prohibited on the beach, with the exception of emergency vehicles
-Peddling and the sale of foodstuffs or objects are prohibited, except under exceptional circumstances when authorized by the mayor of Barneville-Carteret
-Swimming areas will be supervised in July and August.
Supervision is provided every day from llH00 to 19H00. When the flame is out, bathing is unsupervised
