La Tête Noire is a beautiful 14th-century residence located on the ramparts of Mont Saint-Michel, offering a breathtaking view of the bay and the tides. On the street side, it is located in the upper part of the building, in an open area with gardens and a magnificent view of the Mont Saint-Michel. Although it has undergone a number of transformations over the centuries, the house is considered to be the oldest in the town. It is listed as a Historic Monument. It is probably an ancient seigniorial house, known since medieval times as "la Teste Noire". Visible in the miniature in the Très Riches Heures of the Duc de Berry, it predates the 15th-century rampart and bears the Du Guesclin family coat of arms on its eastern facade. The house enjoys a first-rate view of the shoreline and the abbey on the street side.
