Description

At the foot of the Pierra Menta in the Ormente valley, the refuge is one of the stages on the GR5, situated on the Tour du Beaufortain variant. There is no refuge keeper in winter but there is a dormitory room sleeping 18 people.
- Food available lunchtime and evening (booking recommended)
- Dormitory accommodation (booking obligatory)
- Trails maintained + marked
- Drinking water accessible

Getting there: park at Saint-Guérin chapel then follow signs to Refuge de la Balme (1h15 walk approx)

Tips

Refuge on the GR5 hiking trail. Refuge on the following GRP route: Variant n°4 of the Tour du Beaufortain. Peaks: Pierra Menta - Nova - Gargan - Roc de Charbonnière. Hike of several days: Massif du Beaufortin.

Reception complements

Catering year round: fromage blanc with fruit coulis, tartlets, etc. Nettle soup, Beaufort soufflé, honey-glazed diots (spicy sausage), crozets (small pasta squares), 'woodcutter's' polenta and other traditional Savoyard dishes.
