Description

La construction du Berlaymont débute en 1961 d'après les plans de Lucien De Vestel. La volonté du projet est de réaliser une oeuvre qui soit un modèle de transparence et de légèreté inspirée par le secrétariat de l'UNESCO à Paris inauguré en 1958. Le bâtiment comprend 4 ailes de dimensions inégales qui s'articulent autour du noyau central. Le Berlaymont a fait l'objet d'une importante campagne de transformation achevée en 2004.
