This former winemaking village perched on a hillock has houses built using arkose winding around the keep. The building, which has recently been restored, has amazing views over the Allier Valley. The quality of its frame, the exceptionnal character of its mound overhanging the Allier's valley, naturally made it gain in the association "the most beautiful villages of France".
The recently restored building offers a splendid view of the Allier valley. The village takes its name from "mons petrosus", a stony mountain because it has long been famous for its arkose quarries.
