Mine à Pormenaz
Credit : Julien Heuret - CEN 74

Description

The Pormenaz mountain is strewn with mines that were operated from Gallo-Roman times until the 12th century.
Silver lead, gold and copper pyrites and antimony were extracted from these mines. Silver and lead were the most sought-after metals. Around 125 kg of lead and 1 kg of silver were extracted from one tonne of ore.
