A cradle of life in the shadow of the Sancy.
Situated at an altitude of 1,020 m in the heart of the Artense region, this peat bog is nestled in the hollow of a glacial depression on the edge of a volcanic flow from the Sancy.
Farming and the extraction of peat for heating purposes have degraded the bog. Its restoration aims to conserve a diverse landscape and encourage insect populations.
Extensive grazing has helped biodiversity to thrive.
Numerous species have colonized the excavated pools: spiders, birds, dragonflies, plants and mosses.
Over 640 species have been recorded, including a carnivorous plant: the round-leaved drosera (a protected species).
