Bossuet garden

The Bossuet garden is a typical example of a bishop's garden.
The Jardin Bossuet was created in the 17th century, under the episcopacy of Dominique Séguier, in the straight line of French gardens, with a symmetrical shape evoking a bishop's mitre.
Local tradition credits the young André Le Nôtre with the creation of this magnificent garden.

You'll discover a number of contemporary adaptations that have transformed the austerity of the original formal garden: a Romantic-style boulder occupies the center of the circular pool, which was originally unadorned; three-hundred-year-old yews stand alongside numerous rose bushes, including the "Bossuet Aigle de Meaux", a species created in 2004 to celebrate the tercentenary of the death of the city's emblematic bishop: Bossuet.
