Bois des Bans Battery

Description

Located in the woods 500 meters above the village of Cervières, this battery, completely invisible from the outside, was used to monitor the entrance to the Cerveyrette Valley while also keeping watch over the Col de l'Izoard.
These three buildings, dating from 1898, are located on the route leading to Fort du Gondran via Roche Moutte and Peyre Moutte.

Alongside the main building, the infantry trench, which also served to prevent infiltration, is still clearly visible. This vast, simple masonry construction with a tin roof could accommodate 50 men.
The other two, much smaller in size, were used to store ammunition reserves and as the officer's quarters.

Due to its position on the counter-slope, the Bois des Bans battery was not affected by the bombardment of Chaberton.
