Chapel of Saint Denis

Description

Located in the center of the village of Saint Denis, it is the oldest building in Mieussy, dating back to the 15th century.

It was built by the villagers and dedicated to Saint Denis and Saint Christophe.
During the French Revolution, it was devastated and used as a warehouse for planks and coal.

In 1827, the villagers, reproaching themselves for their indifference to their chapel, joined forces with local residents to repair it.

In 1851, the roof was restored and the inhabitants installed a bell cast by the Pacquard brothers.

In 1878, the chapel was again restored, with the back window bricked up, but the two side windows and the door, in the Sardinian neoclassical style, were added at this time, as were the altar and the painting. The painting depicts Saint Denis, bishop and martyr, and Saint Christopher, patron saint of travelers and motorists.

In 1897, an oak cross was installed.

In 1980, the chapel was renovated by the people of Saint Denis.
