Description

The windmills at Montalon and the 45th parallel at Saint André de Cubzac. The five windmills (today without their sails) date back to the 18th century and are the only reminders of the millers who were for a long time "masters" of these sites. They are noteworthy for being situated on the highest point of the Haute Gironde at 73m. There is a wonderful view stretching from the hillock at Fronsac via Bordeaux to the slopes at Blaye. At the foot of the windmill is a marker indicating the 45th parallel north, halfway between Equator and Northe Pole. The windmill is open year round by appointment for groups.
