Hôtel de Chastenoy

Built in the 16th century, this mansion belonged to François de Chastenoy, equerry and advisor to the Duke of Lorraine Charles III (1545-1608).
The mansion was built to a very high standard and comprises three main buildings and two interior courtyards. The first courtyard features a remarkable spiral staircase leading to the galleries with their openwork balustrade.
The decoration of the street gate, flanked by two pilasters surmounted by lion heads, is inspired by Antiquity. The mascaron that crowns the door represents either a jellyfish head or the head of François de Chastenoy's wife. The corners of the door are also adorned with branches. Finally, the pediment once bore the coat of arms of François de Chastenoy and his wife.
