Remains of an important Gallo-Roman agglomeration.
Near the town, the site of the "Tours Mirandes" is a rural sanctuary, of which there remain the foundations of a cultural building of an exceptional scale: the remains of habitat and the vestiges of buildings which make this site of the 1st to 3rd century the vastest of Poitou.
Discovered for the first time in the XIXth century, it was really the object of several campaigns of excavations and salvages at the arrival of the Colonel Charles Potut at the beginning of the Sixties. The drought of 1976 made it possible to establish and reproduce the major part of the plan thanks to the aerial photography. It was a large secondary agglomeration composed of a residential district, a craft district, a sanctuary, a theater and an esplanade long called forum.
