Storholmen is an archaeological open air museum concerning Viking age. Here you will experience the Viking age with all senses, regardless of age. You are not merely an observer but can choose to be an active participant. You can try ancient handicrafts, Viking games, listen to sagas, and learn more about the everyday life of Viking age.
The museum is beautifully located by the lake Erken and a nature preserve with oak trees, and 165 Viking age burial mounds. In the museum there are several reconstructed buildings, herb gardens, rune stones and an exhibition. In summer there is also a little cafeteria.
At the Storholmen Viking village, you can:
Experience our Viking family festival in summer when you can try ancient handicrafts, hear sagas, try Viking games, listen to lectures, and much more.
- Book activities for groups of children and adults all year.
- Book feasts and weddings.
- Book guided tours for groups in the village and in the nearby Viking Age burial ground all year.
- Visit our Children Viking days, focusing on hands-on experiences.
When there is no special activities or bookings in the museum, the gates to Storholmen is open, and you can stroll around in the archaeological open air museum free of charge.
