Eglise Saint Pierre
Description
In Montaut, 7 kilometers from Villeréal, used to exist a priory of the order of Saint Benoît(currently the presbytery), the tower of which was demolished in 1865. The church of Saint Pierre, with its 13th centurynave, star-vaulting, its arched portal ornamented with six pillars, 15th century frescoes, and a dome-shaped 13th century bell-tower testify to the importance of the building in former times. In the 14th century, it was the seat of an archbishopric which comprised 91 parishes and 23 annexes.
