Today's community, composed mainly of North African Jews, numbers about 6,000 souls
Its Synagogue dates back to 1882; restored in 1956, it is among the largest and most majestic buildings of its kind and was classified as a Historic Monument in 1998 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was illuminated in September 2000 on the occasion of the "light plan" of the city of Bordeaux
The interior renovation is complete. The renovation of the peristyle of the external gates and the memorial has just been completed
The completely renovated mikveh was built in 2010
The three hundred square metre ERETS Cultural Centre was inaugurated in early 2016 by the local authorities behind the synagogue.
