The site of Roquefort was occupied continuously from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. The fortified house erected there in 1291/1293 comprises a tower and a low courtyard, the main dwelling being built a little later. Only part of the keep remains of this defensive structure. The new castle was built close to the medieval fortress during the 18th century. The dovecote, restored, includes a sculpted lintel dated 1715. The Roquefort property was bought by the Bellanger family who planted more than one hundred hectares of vines there.
