Built in the 13th and 14th centuries using materials from a former ‘maladrerie’, the Sainte-Magdelaine chapel is the last vestige of the leper colonies that existed during the second leprosy epidemic in Lorraine.
Listed as a Historic Monument since 1991, it is dedicated to Sainte-Magdelaine, patron saint of lepers and a symbol of isolation and purification. Although the chapel is only open to visitors once a year, during the brioche festival, its exterior reveals its fascinating history.
Located 1.8 km from the town centre, it can be reached via the Faubourg d'Alsace. A must-see for history buffs.
