The first church in Val d'Ajol, which resembled a chapel, stood on a mound. Deemed too small, it was replaced in the 16th century by a new church on the Place du Sô. The oldest part of the church dates back to the 16th century, and was extended until the 18th century to accommodate the growing population.
After the earthquake of 1682, the bell tower, built on unstable ground, was consolidated in 1734 with a portico with three porches aligned with the nave and aisles. The bell tower houses four bells and its roof is covered in lava stone.
The interior contains a number of items that are listed as historic monuments: an 18th-century altarpiece, a 16th-century Christ on the Cross and a 15th-century piéta.
