CHALET DE L'EMPEREUR

Description

This building owes its name to Napoleon III, who often visited Plombières-les-Bains and would travel the 10km between Plombières and Le Breuil to meet up for country parties in the Forêt d'Hérival.

At the time, a wooden chalet served as a rallying point and shelter. Destroyed by fire, it was replaced by a wooden hut covered in bark.
Today, the École Nationale Supérieure des Technologies et Industries du Bois d'Epinal has designed and built a building that combines modernism and tradition, using wood as the material. The stone table inside remains as it was originally, consisting of a sandstone slab with rounded corners resting on 4 square pillars.

Access to the north of Girmont-Val-d'Ajol, at a place called Le Breuil, at the intersection of the Route forestière du Villerain and the Route forestière des Tanchottes.
