Fourmis rousses
Description
Un dôme de brindilles grouille de vie au bord du sentier : une fourmilière en pleine activité ! Elle abrite en moyenne 300 000 fourmis rousses. Cet insecte social est un bijou de perfection : de puissantes mandibules pour creuser, couper, transporter ; des antennes pour communiquer et s'orienter ; trois paires de pattes antidérapantes pour se déplacer ; des yeux à facettes pour voir le monde en kaléidoscope ; une armure de chitine pour se protéger et un réservoir d'acide formique pour attaquer. Petite expérience : placer la main à ras de la fourmilière, sans la toucher. Laisser réagir les fourmis et toucher la main du bout de la langue... acide formique !
