Once controled by the Ventadour family, Ussel stands on the last spur of the Plateau de Millevaches between Diège and Sarsonne. The town is a fine example of the region’s medieval past, with a number of interesting historical sights. Monuments include a number of 16C and 17C houses and churches, such as the house of the Ducs de Ventadour and the Maison des Prêtres Communalistes; the Église Saint-Martin with its 12C.
