La Veyle

The river runs through the center of Vonnas begins at Chatenay (under the district of Chalamont) at 300m of altitude, and has a total length of 70 kms.
It is fed by many ponds of Dombes. The Veyle has two major tributaries: the Irance and Renon (confluent at Mézériat and Vonnas respectively). It joins the Saone near Macon. It has existed more than 40 mills on the Veyle, but unfortunately today they are only few left. In Vonnas, all went out of business.
