La Cascade de Doran (waterfall)

La Cascade de Doran (waterfall)

Description

With its 70-meter drop, perched 600 meters higher in the middle of a forest, this mountain waterfall is well worth the effort!
It has been classified as a Natural Heritage site since 1909.
You can see it from the hamlet of Outredière or get closer via the Via Corda of Doran.
The waterfall is fed by a stream that originates from the Pointe d'Areu, which peaks at 2,468 meters. After traveling 5.5 kilometers, the stream flows over Jurassic limestone cliffs before reaching the plain, forming the Doran waterfall.

A bit further down, the streambed descends the slope over 200 meters, scattered with large rocky boulders. This creates a series of small cascades, which are hard to see.

The stream's water is captured upstream of the cascade and treated at a microfiltration plant to supply part of the Sallanches commune.
