This production zone is dominated by spruce, which was much used during reforestation for its ability to grow in full sunlight. It creates a forest atmosphere, which then allows pines (species that need shade) to start to grow in their shelter. Pine and spruce are destined for pallet production, formwork boards and timber structures for roofs. Their by-products are used to make paper pulp and more recently pellets for heating systems, which are increasingly being used in the region.
